  • A gamma radiation source sits opposite the FMG50 detector.
  • The medium between them attenuates the gamma rays.
    • Level detection: A full path (filled) vs. empty path determines level presence
    • Density: Denser medium absorbs more radiation, yielding lower detector signal—used to calculate density and even mass flow (when combined with a flow device)
    • Interface profiling: Changes in density help locate the boundary between layers
