What is it

The Promass F 300 is a series of Coriolis mass flowmeters designed for high-accuracy measurement of liquids and gases in industrial processes. It is part of the Proline Promass F line from Endress+Hauser.

The device combines:

  • A sensor using the Coriolis principle (measuring mass flow directly)
  • A transmitter / electronics unit that handles signal processing, diagnostics, and output.

 

How it works (Coriolis principle)

The Coriolis flowmeter operates by vibrating flow tubes; as fluid flows through them, the Coriolis force causes tiny twists or phase shifts in the tubes. These distortions are measured and converted into mass flow. Because the measurement depends on inertial effects, it is largely independent of fluid properties like viscosity or density (though density and temperature are also measured for compensation/correction).

Because it's a mass flow measurement, it's inherently more accurate for many control, billing, and safety-critical applications compared to volume-only meters, especially when fluid conditions vary.

  • Installation: Although inlet/outlet run requirements are reduced, the meter must still be installed properly to avoid distortion, vibrations, or gas entrainment, etc.
